Zoom Presentation: “The Shadow Docket and Its Impact on Appellate Courts”
with Professor Steve Vladeck
The National Association of Appellate Court Attorneys (NAACA) invites you to a
special online presentation by Professor Stephen Vladeck, a leading scholar on
federal courts and Supreme Court procedure, and author of The Shadow Docket: How
the Supreme Court Uses Stealth Rulings to Amass Power and Undermine the
Republic. Professor Vladeck will discuss the Supreme Court’s expanding use
of its “shadow docket” — emergency orders and summary decisions issued without
full briefing or oral argument, specifically focusing on the use of the “shadow
docket” during the term of the 47th President— and explore how this
evolving practice affects the work of state and federal appellate courts.
The session is free to NAACA members. For non-members there is a $30 fee for
individual nonmembers or a $100 fee to cover all attendees from a single court or organization.
